ConocoPhillips Alaska makes significant impact through United Way of Anchorage’s Community Campaign. Its support helps fuel our work, which focuses on creating and funding solutions so everyone can achieve their potential. Both ConocoPhillips Alaska and United Way power Alaska nonprofits toward a shared vision.
ConocoPhillips Alaska, its employees and its retirees all contribute to this impact. Altogether they gave $651,948 during our 2024 Community Campaign, making ConocoPhillips Alaska our largest contributor. Of that amount, 79% of the funds were designated to our Community Fund and focus areas and 21% to other Alaska nonprofits.
Several ConocoPhillips Alaska employees managed aspects of its 2024 workplace campaign. Two of them, Melissa Hernandez and Katie Mills, talked about their experiences. Something immediately stood out. Melissa and Katie exude positive energy, which inspires their colleagues to participate in our Community Campaign.
Melissa served as the lead treasurer, which required her to track and process employee donations. “This campaign has one of the highest employee participation rates among our Alaska fundraising events,” Melissa said. “We hope to get 75% employee participation, and we met that goal in 2024.” Pledging through United Way, making a one-time donation or participating in the food drive all count as participation. In fact, more than 250 Alaska employees donated either by pledging to give for a year or offering a one-time gift.
“It’s great to see the number of people who support the campaign,” said Melissa. “Learning how long they’ve donated through United Way is great too,” she continued. “Especially the retirees—they’re remarkable because they keep contributing year after year.”
Each year, we encourage workplaces to participate in our worldwide Day of Caring. ConocoPhillips Alaska does, calling it ConocoPhillips Alaska Community Outreach Day. Katie served as a co-chair for it and assisted team leads as they scheduled volunteer events. “On Community Outreach Day, around 200 ConocoPhillips Alaska employees volunteered at nonprofits for the afternoon,” Katie said. Roughly 500 accumulative volunteer hours were tracked at a range of nonprofits, including:
- Housing assistance such as Clare House and Habitat for Humanity Anchorage.
- Income supports such as Grow North Farm and Downtown Hope Center.
- Recreation opportunities such as Alaska Zoo and Singletrack Advocates.
- Youth services such as Boys and Girls Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
ConocoPhillips Alaska supports these efforts by offering matching volunteer and activity grants. The time an employee or group volunteer at a nonprofit is converted into a monetary donation that is given to the nonprofit as well. “For me, it’s nice to feel the personal connection of our community impact,” said Katie. “We want people to have options to get involved with things they’re passionate about.”
ConocoPhillips Alaska has donated more than $24 million through our Community Campaigns since 1999.* Thank you, ConocoPhillips Alaska, for being a generous, unwavering supporter of United Way of Anchorage and many nonprofits throughout Alaska!
