United Way of Anchorage Donor Privacy Policy
This privacy policy applies to the collection of information, including information collected on our website. By submitting your information to us or any of our staff, you are accepting the practices described in this policy, and the practices of our processing personal information for the purposes stated below.
What Personal Information is Collected?
When you interact with us, electronically or in other ways, you may provide us with personal information, such as your name, address, telephone number, email address, and credit/debit card information. When you knowingly disclose that information, we collect it for the purpose you intended. These purposes include, for example, registering to receive newsletters or other materials; requesting information about our work and practices; donating to us; registering for an event; volunteering with us; or simply asking a question.
We ask for personal information so that we can fulfill your request. We do not collect personal information from you unless you provide it, so you may engage with us without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information. The information you do provide is stored in accordance with pertinent laws, rules, and regulations.
How We Use Personal Information?
When you provide information for a specific purpose, we use the information only for that purpose. For example, if you make a donation or register for an event, we will collect and use the personal information provided to process the donation or registration and to keep you apprised about the impact of your donation, the work of United Way of Anchorage, and opportunities to volunteer or get more involved.
If you designate your gift through United Way of Anchorage to another non-profit, you can choose whether or not your information is shared with that non-profit. If you do not indicate otherwise, United Way of Anchorage will share your name, contact information and amount of gift to the non-profit to which you direct your donation. This information will enable the organization to acknowledge your donation directly and to send you follow-up information about their programs. If you mark the box next to “I do NOT want my name released to the organization,” neither your name nor any other information about you will be transmitted to the recipient nonprofit organization when payment is made to that organization. You will still receive an acknowledgement of your gift from United Way of Anchorage, and your gift will remain tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
Other instances where we may use your information are to comply with the law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to conform to the requirements of law or comply with legal process served on us, protect and defend our rights, or act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of others. We may also use the personal information to protect against potential fraud. We may verify with third parties the information collected in the course of processing donation or event registration. If you use a credit or debit card on the website, we may use card authorization and fraud screening services to verify that your card information and address matches the information that you provided to us and that the card being used has not been reported lost or stolen.
If you would like to review or verify information that we have collected about you, please contact us in writing at Vice President of Resource Development, United Way of Anchorage, 701 West 8th Avenue, Suite 230, Anchorage, AK 99501
Do We Share Your Personal Information?
We will NOT sell, trade, rent, or share your personal information with outside sources. We will NOT send you mailings on behalf of other organizations.
UWA Is Committed To Data Security
Personal information is stored on our server and is NOT publicly accessible. Personal information is only accessed by UWA personnel on a “need to know” basis. To prevent unauthorized access, maintain accuracy, and safeguard the proper use of information, we have physical, electronic, and managerial procedures in place to secure the information we collect. Sensitive data, such as credit/debit card numbers, are processed using industry standard security measures.
Changes to the Donor Privacy Policy
We reserve the ability to change this Donor Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will note the last update at the bottom of this Donor Privacy Policy. For changes to this policy that may be materially less restrictive on our use or disclosure of your personally identifiable information, we will take commercially reasonable measures to obtain your consent before implementing the change, by sending a notice to your primary email address and the home address specified in our records and by placing a prominent notice on our website.
