Anchorage, AK – Trained and certified United Way of Anchorage Healthcare Navigators stand ready to help Alaskans secure health insurance when open enrollment at HealthCare.gov begins Wednesday, November 1.
The enrollment period runs until January 16, 2024. For coverage beginning January 1, 2024, Alaskans must enroll by December 15.
Alaskans can connect to this free service by calling 2-1-1 or 1-800-478-2221 or by texting GETCOVEREDAK to 898-211. Interpreter services are available in 170+ languages.
Navigators provide enrollment assistance online and over the phone to every community in the state. Alaskans can also access in-person assistance in Anchorage, Fairbanks, the Mat-Su valley, and Kenai Peninsula. Read about a Navigator’s experience helping Alaskans.
Health insurance can be confusing. For those who have never enrolled in coverage before or have questions about renewing their coverage, free guidance and expertise in finding the right health insurance plan, including access to Medicaid and Denali KidCare, can clear up confusion.
Navigators serve as trusted resources, dispelling myths and misinformation that may keep people from applying for coverage that fits both their needs and their budget. Navigators can help consumers learn about discounts based on income that help make coverage more affordable. They won’t endorse a specific plan, but will lay out clear, accurate information and comparisons. Many individuals can get coverage for less than $20 per month.
“We’re here to help Alaskans better understand their options,” said Jane Straight, Director of Income/Health Impact at United Way of Anchorage. “Any Alaskan who feels they can’t afford or don’t qualify for coverage at HealthCare.gov should reconsider and call 2-1-1 to connect with a Navigator. We find most people are often surprised to learn that they can afford comprehensive coverage or qualify for Medicaid.”
In Anchorage, free walk-in enrollment events will be held every Tuesday and Thursday, beginning November 2 and running through January 11 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Loussac Library, 3600 Denali Street.
