“Day of Caring is like matchmaking for nonprofits and supporters. It introduces volunteer events. Supporters care, and they want to connect. They find nonprofits that need helping hands. Everyone benefits—clients, organizations and volunteers.”

Aud Pleas captures Day of Caring—United Way of Anchorage’s yearly volunteer event—spot-on. As our Volunteer Engagement and Events Coordinator, they organize opportunities for caring people in our community to connect in ways that create change.
Day of Caring motivates community members, workplaces and organizations to donate time and energy to nonprofits that have crucial needs, often in the form of large projects. Employees at workplaces involved in our Community Campaign join colleagues at designated nonprofits on specific days. Sometimes, though, people need alternatives. Organizing many volunteer events in one week allows more people—including anyone from our community, like you—to find time to give. Check out nonprofits’ most up-to-date volunteer needs list.
This year, our Day of Caring occurs on Wednesday, October 4. What if you have obligations that day? United Way’s got you covered. As is true for many special days, we extend our celebration. You can join volunteer events all week—Monday, October 2 through Friday, October 6. Even after our Day of Caring events wrap-up, you can find volunteer opportunities year-round by checking out bethechange907.org.
“Day of Caring brings our community together and allows us to focus on needs that aren’t always on the forefront of people’s minds,” says Aud. “Nonprofits can say, ‘This is what we need.’ People get the chance to pick their own adventure, based on their belief system, time and energy.”
By joining a Day of Caring event, you will feel invigorated as you give back to our community. You’ll see new faces and reconnect with old friends, former colleagues and community members that you’ve crossed paths with. But do you know what else will happen? Together, we will amplify our impact and bring up more people, making Anchorage better and stronger. So create a volunteer profile today on BeTheChange907, using the button below, to join a Day of Caring event and have volunteer opportunities at your fingertips.
